Julian was born in Neath, South Wales. He took up the
Double Bass aged 13. After progressing through the county Youth Orchestra and
the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, Julian furthered his bass studies at

the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, Julian furthered his bass studies at
Birmingham Conservatoire.
After graduating in Birmingham, Julian won a scholarship to Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London for post-graduate studies.
After enjoying 4 years as a successful freelance bass player, Julian joined the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He also takes an active part in the CBSO's Education Programme and the popular chamber music series Centre Stage.
