Peter studied timpani and percussion with James Blades at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Aged twenty-one he was appointed principal timpanist with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for sixteen years. In 1989 he was invited to join the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra as Co- Principal Timpanist.
